The power of What If?

Simply put to be an inventor you have to have the power of What If?

What If, is the most powerful tool an inventor has. In fact if you don’t have the What If ability you’ll never be an inventor, worse then that you’ll never be original.

People who have the What If power are those people you read about, their the ones that made millions with a simple idea that anyone could have had.

What is, What If?

What If is the power to look at problems in the world and in every day life and not be put of by them.

People who have the What If ability see the problem just as everybody else does but rather then be dismissive or to simply accept the problem, they think, What If….

Why you need What If?

When most people encounter a problem in their life they simply accept it and move on.

If you have the What If mentality you have an advantage over others who don’t, because you look at the world the way an inventor needs to.

You can look at a problem and realise that a problem isn’t really a problem, it’s just an unfound solution.

It’s something that when solved can be a product that people will pay to have.

You can have the What If power?

From now on every time you have a problem, or a task you have to do takes too long or is too hard don’t just accept it, think about what you can do to make it easier, quicker or better.

Solve your own problems, there’s a chance others are having the same problem and want a solution.

  • Force yourself to ask What If, throughout your day to day life.
  • Ask What If to problems your friends and family have in their life.
  • Maybe you’ll read about a problem in the paper or see one on TV.

Think of problems groups of people have, for instance,

  • Single moms
  • Teenagers
  • The elderly

Ask the What If question and maybe you’ll come up with a solution that you can create a product for.

  1. I couldn’t agree with you more. Almost every inventor I’ve ever met has the ability to ask “What If?”.

I recently interviewed John Osher on my blog. He’s the inventor of the smash toy-candy “Spin Pop”, a lollipop that sits atop a battery operated handle, twirling the sweet treat in your mouth.

Osher asked, “What If I took this technology and applied it to a tooth brush?”

Osher sold his “Spin Brush” to Proctor and Gamble in 2001 for 475 million dollars!

    What if works!

Great blog. I will be reading it on a regular basis.

Here’s the link to the John Osher story on my blog along with an audio interview.

Yeah I heard that interview. It’s a must for anyone to listen to.

If you want to be a success you need to soak up every bit of information you can from those who have already achieved what you want to do and then look to apply that knowledge you’ve gained.

I especially liked how before going to P&G he sold the product himself to gain sales figures. Then when he finally did present to them he could prove he had a product that would sell and in fact would sell better than anything else on the market.
