Brian Gates is the inventor behind Cord Order. This invention was born out of a problem which Brian found while inventing another product! For four years a promotion company sat on he’s invention but Brian finally decided enough was enough and is now going it alone.
Find out about Brian’s plan for the future and the advice he gives to first time inventors.
Cord Order will be available for purchase at the end of May.
Have you invented before? If so how many inventions have you got?
I have been developing and inventing products for several years. Cord-order has been the first product I have personally pursued and developed.
Take us through the steps you went through in creating Cord Order?
The concept came about after developing another product that required three separate cords and was to sit on your coffee table. I was unhappy with placing this item on display and came up with a variety of methods to either hide or minimize the tangled mess of cords.
How long after having the idea did it actually take to create a working model for Cord Order?
It took about 6 months to have samples of the product in hand. During that time period I developed all promotional materials and branding associated with the product.
What problems did you face from taking your idea and making it into an actual working product? And how did you solve the problems?
The whole process was fairly straight forward with the only problem being that I had signed with a promotional company and was locked in with them. It later turned out to be a rip-off as they sat on the product for four years. I have since voided our contract and I am currently producing and marketing the product on my own.
What has been the hardest part of the whole process?
Hardest part was getting free of the promotional company.
What are the avenues you are going to use to sell Cord Order?
There will be two avenues used to sell the product the first version will be targeted through website sales of single units to consumers and promotional companies (ASI). The second will be a higher quality product sold in 4 packs designed for retail chains.
What plans do you have for the Cord Order in the future?
We have designs and plans to develop a family of products along the Corg line that offer complementary benefits to the original products.
What advice could you give to anybody out there who wants to be an inventor?
Never give up on your idea and be very wary of promotional companies. They are very good salesmen and will promise you the moon. Do your research and have faith in your dream.
Will this be your last invention or will you be looking to create more?
There will be plenty more.
If you could go back and do this all again, what would you do differently and why?
Avoid the promotional company.
LoveInventions Say
It’s really good to see Brian not giving up. After having his invention sat on for four years he could have simply gave up, but he’s not giving up.
