Geneva Invention Show
Each year Geneva is host to one of the biggest invention shows in the world. The International Exhibition Of Invention.
The show claims that last year licences in excess of $40 million US dollars were negotiated and that 45% of the inventions exhibited at the exhibition resulted in licensing contracts.
Inventions on show
- Boards-shoes for walking on water
- A bed that makes itself
- A rubber ring to help make opening bottles easier
- A folding bicycle
- A machine that dries kitchen garbage, eliminating food bacteria and odors
- A small suitcase that can be transformed into a desk
- A pipe which imitates the action of smoking
- A fire-proof substance for safes
- A portable handheld speaking machine
- Artificial nose hair
- A chess set for the visually impaired
- A running alarm clock that you HAVE to get out of bed and chase to turn of
The week long show hosts over 700 exhibitors with over 1000 inventions from 45 countries and over 65000 attendees. It started on the 2nd April 2008 and concludes on the 6th April 2008.
Awards
The show awards 50 inventions that their judges deem “especially deserving”.
But there is one main prize, “the grand prix”, which this year was awarded to Mr Jeong-Soo Lee from the company Incasolution Ltd who has created an automatic energy-saving device which monitors the consumption of electricity and cuts of power to PCs and their peripheral when the devices are turned on but not in use.
I’ll discuss some of these invention in more detail tomorrow including “the grand prix” winner.
Show In More Details
The show insist on each invention being new (it can not have been shown at the convention before) and must hold a patent. But other then that it will take inventions from any category and size. Just some of the categories on show are,

- Medicine and health care
- Practical novelties
- Sports and leisure
- Games and toys
